At Ashton AM2 Centre, we receive lots of calls from candidates asking about AM2 resits, so we've put together some of the most frequently asked questions to help clear things up.
Whether you're looking to resit a section or want to know what to expect from your results, we've got the answers below.
How do I know if I need to resit any sections?
Within 5 working days of completing your assessment, you will receive a results email from NET. This will show the results of each AM2 section.
All green and ticked? Congratulations, you've passed! If you have been successful in your assessment, NET will issue your Assessment of Occupational Competence certificate. More information on certificates can be found at www.netservices.org.uk/certification.

Results showing a red cross on any sections? Don't worry, it is very common; this means you have a section (or sections) to resit.
The main sections (A1-A6,B,C,D,E) are split into smaller subsections; if one or more subsection is failed, you must resit the full section.
For example, you can see below that A2.1 was failed; this means the full A2 section must be resat.

How do I book a resit?
AM2, AM2S and AM2E resits can be booked at any approved centre – you do not have to return to the centre where you completed your original assessment.
As resits usually only require one or two days, availability is often much better than for a full assessment. You can check centre availability on the NET website here: https://www.netservices.org.uk/centre-availability/
If you'd like to book your resit at Ashton AM2 Centre, give us a call on 0161 339 8229. We often have additional availability that may not yet be listed on the NET website.
How much does a resit cost?
Resits are charged per section, with fees set nationally by NET. This means the cost should be the same regardless of which centre you choose.
You can view the 2026–2027 resit fees below.
Please note that there is a maximum charge for resits. If the combined cost of the sections you need to retake exceeds the cost of a full assessment, you will only be charged the full assessment fee.

What if I fail a resit?
Don't worry, it happens.
There is no limit to the number of times you can resit an AM2 section, provided that all sections are successfully completed within two years of your first assessment.
If you have failed the same section three times, we will require confirmation from your employer or training provider that you have received additional training and are ready to resit. Once this has been reviewed and approved, a fourth attempt can be booked.
Resits can be costly, so it's important not to rush back in. Take the time to prepare thoroughly, focus on the sections you didn't pass, make use of online resources, and seek advice and support from colleagues, tutors, and your employer. The better prepared you are, the greater your chance of success.
What feedback will I receive on my results?
NET provides automated feedback on areas within the assessment where you have been unsuccessful. NET and the AM2 centres are unable to give detailed feedback on specific marking points to ensure the credibility of the assessment.
During the assessment process, your NET assessor takes images of your work which are then annotated and uploaded to the online marking system. If you do not meet the standard in any particular area, NET has photographic evidence of your work which can be accessed and referenced in the event of an appeal.
We often get asked for more detail on specific points, like ‘which cable did I not select correctly?’, or ‘how did I position the equipment incorrectly?’
There’s a balance between giving helpful feedback and disclosing too much detail. AM2 is an assessment of competence against an industry standard and should only be taken when a candidate is fully prepared. It’s different to the type of assessments during training, which provide feedback to help you improve and develop.
NET must ensure that the feedback we provide still allows the confidentiality of the assessment to be maintained.
To ensure the assessment marking points remain confidential, NET is unable to give specific details on exact points of failure.
